From the Principal – Term 4 week 9

I am sure that many people are looking forward to the end of what has been an extraordinary year for us all. I have heard some say they can’t wait for this terrible year to end. However, just as with all adversity, we have seen strength, courage and growth in our school. Our students have much to celebrate. They have shown resilience, cooperation and optimism. They have shown us they can face challenges with a smile on their face and belief in themselves. Our staff have also shown these attributes and I thank them all sincerely for their determination and adaptability in getting through 2020.

This week I was honoured to celebrate a milestone in my own learning, in receiving my Harvard Fellowship Certificate, along with 20 other colleagues. This is the culmination of 18 months of work; attending a leadership course at Harvard University in Boston, USA, completing online study through Harvard, and working on a strategic project for the Department of Education. It has been an incredible journey of growth and learning and one I feel very fortunate to have been involved in.

I am looking forward to 2021, with the development of our new Business Plan well underway and some exciting new planning in place. I wish all of our APS families a wonderful holiday break. We look forward to seeing you back in February. Please keep an eye on your Connect account and Facebook, as there will be some updates posted between now and then.

Merry Christmas to all and happy holidays.

Ms Cathy Willis

Student in the spot light

Bree from Rm 17 did a fantastic job with her Science assignment this week.  Students were given a task to research and create adisplay on a topic of interest from studies on the Solar System. Bree chose Saturn as her topic, and produced this amazing model. We certainly learned a lot about this planet thanks to Bree’s display.  Well done!

Library News

The Library at Albany Primary School has a great selection of books for all students to access. At the moment we have a lot of overdue books. As we are getting ready for the end of year processes we would appreciate everyone’s help in tracking down all our books.

Books can find their way in to some very strange places so check under the bed, behind the lounge chairs, in the car and at grandma’s place. When found please return to the Library. Thank you!

Out And About With Our Year 6s!

Some of our Year 6 students had an orientation day at Albany Senior High School. As you can see, they are more than ready for the next adventure!

Our departing Year 6 leaders are pictured here enjoying their well-earned Dome breakfast. This is an annual event for the Student Councillors and is a great way for the students to get together as a group and reflect on their year as school leaders.
