From the Principal’s Desk Term 3 Week 3 2023

We have had a fantastic start to the term and our students are well and truly settled and engaged in their learning. I see so many wonderful things going on around the school and this is reflected in the Merit Certificates each assembly. Students really are working hard and trying their absolute best at everything they do. Keep it up, team APS!

It is again shaping up to be a busy term. Our Interhouse Spelling Competition is this Friday, followed by APS hosting the Interschool Competition in Week 6. Our Year 5 and 6 students will be competing in the boys Dockers Cup and girls Dockers Shield, Year 6 go for a bike ride on the Munda Biddi Trail, and swimming lessons in the last two weeks of term.

Book Week will be held in Week 6, Monday 21 August – Friday 25 August. There are lots of events organised for the week including dress up day on Friday.

Please keep an eye on your Connect notices to receive information about these events.

Lost Property

We are seeing a lot of lost property in our covered area as the weather warms and students are taking jackets off.

Please help us to return lost items by ensuring your child’s belongings have their name clearly on them.

Changes to Working With Children Checks

The Department of Education has updated its policy and guidelines on people who are required to have a WWCC in schools.

Parents volunteering day to day at their child’s school are exempt from applying for a WWCC in most situations, including volunteering in classrooms and the Uniform Shop.

Parents must complete a Parent and Child Volunteer Declaration Form prior to commencing volunteer work. Your child’s teacher may ask you to complete this document as we manage our site compliance with the new guidelines.

All other volunteers, including grandparents and other family members, are required to have a valid WWCC to volunteer in schools.

We thank you for assisting us with this.

I will be out of the school during Weeks 6, 7, and 8 as I take some Long Service Leave. Kylee Weadley will be Acting Principal during this time.
