From the Principal Term 1 – Week 1

Welcome Back!

What a fantastic start to 20201 we have had! Our students were all settled and busy early on Monday morning. We were all relieved that this week has gone ahead for us in Albany.

Over the next few newsletters we will be introducing our staff to you. Keep an eye out for our staff profiles. There are three to share in today’s newsletter.

Our New Staff

This year we welcome several new staff to our amazing team.

Ms Cathy Scott – Year 1

Ms Deborah Greenwood – Year 5

Mrs Tanya Dixon – Digital Technologies

Mr Paul Carron – Physical Education

Miss Alison Jones – Music

Mrs Alicia Sims – School Officer

Mrs Bree Crockett –  School Psychologist

We also welcome back Mr Michael Gardiner to Science, who has been on extended leave for the last 6 months.
Keep an eye out for their profiles over the next few newsletters 😊

Parents on School Grounds

As we plunge into some uncertainties around Covid restrictions, I have a few reminders. Parents are welcome to come to pick up and drop off their children. We do ask that you follow the social distancing and hygiene guidelines. All classrooms have hand sanitiser you are able to use. Please ask the teacher if you cannot see it. At this point, we will be able to have parents in for classroom rosters and assemblies. Please just give our teachers a couple of weeks to organise these for you. Let us know if you have any questions about this.

Class Restructures

In the next few weeks we will be reassessing our class structures and may possibly need to do some reshuffling. Our official enrolments are due to the Department at the end of Week 3, and this affects our budget allocation. We have a few full classes already, and so will see how this goes. Fingers crossed we will not need to, however, please keep this in mind.

Class Information

In the next few weeks teachers will be sending out an information letter to all parents. This will introduce you to your child’s teacher and give you an outline of their expectations for the class.

We will not be holding an information session as well as this. Instead, we will be offering parent-teacher interviews at the end of Term 1, as an opportunity for you to have a one-to-one catch up about how your child is going at APS. Of course, you do not need to wait until then if you would like to touch base with staff about your child. Feel free to pop in and have a chat, if convenient, or phone to make an appointment. Just remember, staff are quite busy first thing in the mornings, so it may be best to arrange another time with the teachers.

We always want our parents to feel as though they are kept informed about their children’s progress. Let us know if you have any concerns.

Connect

Please see our wonderful office staff if you are not able to access Connect. We will be using this electronic platform more and more this year as a way of both improving our communication processes and reducing our carbon footprint!

Notes Going Home

Over the next week there will be quite a lot of notes coming home which need to be returned with your permissions.

We have new policies in place for students accessing the internet and any applications we use. Medical forms and other updates are also important to return.

End of 2020 Assembly DVD

If you would like to purchase a DVD of our final assembly for 2020, please send $5 with your child to the classroom teacher and we will get this to you.

Have a wonderful start to the Term. We are so excited to be back this year, helping our amazing students learn and grow.
